Saint Catherine's Hospice

About Us....

Saint Catherine’s Hospice care’s for people with progressive, incurable diseases such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, heart failure and lung disease. 

Saint Catherine’s provides pain relief, symptom control, respite care and ultimately allows the patient to die with dignity in a secure and comfortable environment. It is the hospice’s aim that all those with such a disease should have the resources to live as fully and as comfortably as possible and, when the time comes, to provide the best end of life care possible.

The range of services provided include a Day Hospice, out-patients, in-patient care, a neurological community nurse specialist, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and bereavement support.  Saint Catherine’s also provides a satellite day hospice at Whitby, and medical advice to Scarborough General Hospital where the consultants run joint oncology/palliative medicine clinics twice a week. 

There are also 4 designated general palliative care beds in Whitby Hospital.  Saint Catherine’s provides 2 sessions per week of consultant time, 3 sessions per week of GP practitioner time and a full time F grade staff nurse. 

There are 2 designated general palliative care beds in Bridlington Wolds Unit, a Saint Catherine’s consultant spends 2 sessions per week at Bridlington.
